Space in the campervan is precious and everything you carry with you needs to have a purpose, preferably more than one. There is an exception to this rule though which falls under the ‘what if’. What if we break down? What if a hose bursts? You will be wise to allow some space for tools and supplies for your RV to cover these potential incidents.
It’s probably not possible to be ready for every situation that life will throw at you on the road, but we like to try and be prepared so we do carry with us some things that may never be used. Hopefully.
It turns out that not that much space is needed.
Below is a list of tools and supply that we like to have with us. We included some links to Amazon for those not sure what some of the items are. A lot of these items can be found at your local hardware store in smaller quantities.

This all may seem like a lot of tools and supplies for your RV just for ‘what ifs’, but it really doesn’t take up too much space and it’s a better option than “I wish I had___with me”
Let us know if you have a must-have tool that you have to have with you. We will make sure to update the list.

We also carry . . . that I can thing off:
– bungee cords (various sizes)
– Parachute Cord
– Almost everything we use is attached/movable with industrial Velcro (inside and out the trailer): LED Work Lights, iPads, Cell phones, etc.
– Tire Plugs (gets you to the next station)
– Small lite tarp for working outside (changing tire . . . or “what if” your spouse kicks you out) in rain or sun.
– Zip fire starters/Strike anywhere Matches.
– Aluminum Foil (to cook/fry fish, etc.).
– Katadyn Pocket Water Filter.
– Swedish Hand Carving Axe (wood and animal/fish).
– 3-in-One oil (better than WD-40).
– Travel sewing kit.
– First-aid kit.
– Small survival kit.
– Flares & triangle reflectors.
– Warm gloves and hats.
– Extra Meds.
– GPS/All band Radio.
– A bottle of Jack Daniel’s or your favorite liquid pacifier . . . for that “what if’ moment.
All this can fit in a small backpack or under the bed inside a small box.
The list can go on, but there are the basics—everything else you improvise.
– most important VISA/Master card and Cash!!
Happy and safe trails.
Fantastic additions to the list! We also carry with us most of these. We tried to keep this list to items required for fixing stuff, but I guess a few other things snuck in as well 🙂 Your last item is essential!
Always be as prepared as possible. Smart move
Haha, we try!
You forgot to add the most important tool in your RV gear, which is the bucket of your favorite RV roof coating for emergency roof repairs. RV Roof Magic is an RV repair and preventative maintenance option that many RV owners are using with great effect.
Thank you for pointing this out. While it is probably something that RV owners should be aware off, our campervan had the original roof of the van and is not prone to cracking.
