The Coronavirus Diaries – So we built a Store

Since we are now unretired, we thought we might as well do something useful so we built a store.  We stayed in Port Elgin for a month and gave the hostages a good, long break from us.

The result of this adventure is that the Saugeen Fish and Chips and Curry House is now a Pizzaville and will be opened early in the new year.  We wish them best of luck with their new restaurant!  Here are before and after photos.

Just after demolition: metal studs are up.

A four week skip forward and we are almost done!  Just in time for us to go home for Christmas.

If you are in the Port Elgin area…

We are now back and getting ready for our tiny Christmas celebration — just us and the hostages.  Missing the one that got away and the yet-to-be-met Grandpuppy!

She has grown so much!

We also made little houses just for fun.  Here are some of them.  Aren’t they cute?

As we settle into another lockdown in ontario, we would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas regardless of how different it is for you this year. Have you noticed how people make a bigger effort to smile bigger with their eyes so that you see that they are smiling behind their masks? To us it is a sign of hope.  Do the right thing to protect yourselves and other around you.  That is your gift this year so that next year we can all be together again. Try and make the best of it and let’s all hope for a better 2021!

Great looking store. Definitely cute houses. Funny you should mention about smiling while masked because I was wondering whether people noticed my smiling efforts when I was at the grocery store this week. I hope so. Merry Christmas.

Sometimes it is good to get out and accomplish something. Not sure I would ever unretire, but will certainly lend a hand. Congrats on the store and getting back to the hostages. Have a Merry Christmas and stay well. Allan

Sounds like you’ve had a productive year! It just so happens that I love pizza and i’ll be sure to check out the new store if I’m in the Port Elgin area. Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

I love Grandpuppy. Here in Ballarat we have had two lockdowns and we are now almost free of the virus. However the habit is continuing – all over town you see people getting out of cars to go shopping and they put their mask on before they go into a shop. Nobody seems to question it.
Keep safe and have a great holiday and a rewarding New Year.
    Love
    John.

Isn’t she adorable? Lockdowns seem to work here as well, it was the in-between that screwed everything up. Hopefully the second one will get things under control. Masks are mandatory indoors, which is a good thing. YOu have yourself a wonderful Christmas and take good care of yourself ❤️

I like what you’ve done with the store. Thanks for the uplifting words. A positive attitude goes a long way because it affects others. That was one quality in all of my most effective bosses.

We would love to hear from you!
