Coronavirus Diaries — Procreate

Okay, it’s not what you think… despite the new lockdown and stay-at-home orders for Ontario, which may result in a baby boom.  I am talking about Procreate, the drawing program for iPad.

I know that we are behind with our Ontario travel posts, but my attention is on this unbelievably awe-inspiring and magical app.  The Apple pencils arrived in the mail and the hostage and I went to work immediately.  Drawing with the pencil on the iPad really feels like drawing and painting, only better.  No easel, no paints, no canvases, no mediums or gels.  Just an iPad and a wizardry pencil.

Of course, there is a learning curve, but we were pretty happy to produce within the first hour of using it, a couple of decent drawings.

and here it is the same drawing with background removed.

I think I am off to a good start.  The hostage is producing some cool Star Trek art too! This will definitely keep us busy during the next wave of nasty virus.

Here is her study of Star Trek uniforms.

And here is the second one

She is now working on a Stargate scene.

I see in our future a dueling iPads episode. (this is where I should have inserted the dueling Banjos video, but I won’t).  Instead, I will share with you a lovely beach scene that I drew.

So despite the second lockdown and severe lack of extended travel, we are kind of happy campers.

Stay safe and be well!  We will really make an effort to put up some travel posts.  Promise.

I bought the new iPad and pencil two weeks ago specifically for Procreate. I downloaded the app on day one, but I am still waiting for inspiration to hit.

Kevin, It’s amazing. Just draw as if noone is watching 🙂 I simply played with the different brushes for a few days while I waited for the pencils to arrive in a separate package. Once the pencil arrived I was confident enough to just start. Don’t wait for inspiration just start by drawing what’s around you. Inspiration will probably hit you when you are not paying attention. But don’t you just love it?

WELCOME to the world of IOS; creative life on an iPad. I gave up my desktop and all of Adobe software almost 2 years ago so I can work as I did back before Adobe.

You’ll love procreate. Also check out Affinity Software made by Brits (in the UK of course). I use their apps for all of our Travel art and documentations on the iPad.

Questions, concerns, complaints? Please ask me

Hmm, since I can’t draw with a pencil and paper, I think this falls into the “slim to no chance” category. When students used to complain, “I can’t do this,” they had to listen to my “we’re all good at some things and not others speech,” (a real cliffhanger ????) I’d draw a cow or something for them. You should have heard the howls of laughter I got with that when my “animals” looked like some new species.

Thank you for this ‘sketchy’ post.
Your drawings give you every right to boast.
    I’m so low-tech that I’d do much worse….
So I think I’ll stick to writing verse.

Haha, I see what you did there with “procreate…” 😉 Looks like you’ve been having a fun time using the program, and I can’t wait to see what else you (pro)create with it, haha!

We would love to hear from you!
