August Anniversaries

We have a few anniversaries to celebrate in August.

Vanversary

We brought out campervan three years ago and it’s been a blast!  We love the van and the freedom of travel on our terms that comes with it.  With over 70,000 km of travel on it through deserts and mountains, to beaches and forests, we put it to good use.  We still wish it was a 4X4, but it’s okay without it too.  Our next foray will be to the beautiful Pukaskwa National Park on the shores of Lake Superior

Blogversary

We started this blog right after buying the campervan as a way to keep track of our travels and share some of our adventures with our family.  Luckily we also have all of you to share with as well and we hope that you are enjoying our adventures as well.  The blog started off with a lot of van upgrades, continued as a travel journal of sorts, for a couple of years it served as a COVID diary as well, but now we try to share little stories of interesting, out-of-the-way places and sights.  Who knows where we’ll go from here.  We are almost at 500 followers, some of you engage with us regularly and we consider you friends.  We are hoping to meet some of you in person one day!

Moversary

We moved to our new house in our new town a year ago.  We love it here and really feel blessed to be living in such a place.  If you remember the hostages, they also moved here a few days after us and they love it too.  We spend most of our free time by the lake.  Today, we enjoyed the weekly sailboat race.

Retireversary

We also retired last August and haven’t looked back.  People keep asking us what we do all day and we say: whatever we want to and whenever we want to do it.  We are not the type who get bored, and truthfully, we are busier than ever.

BBD

It stands for brother’s birthday, which is an anniversary of sorts. He recently got a new lease on life after a very scary medical emergency.  We wanted to thank all of you who asked after him and wished him well.  He is doing well, and as his wife says, after this surgery she has a model 2022 husband.

I hope all is well with you too!

Back to the lake.

Well happy anniversaries to you both. It has been a real delight to have been a small part of your experience. Most days when I turn on my computer I check out “Time Ontario” just so I know.

What a happy post! I’m so happy that your brother is getting a new lease on life (No lie—the working title of my current manuscript is called Second Chance Summer) and retirement is agreeing with both of you. I so get the feeling of freedom and not being bored. I thought the bubble would eventually burst, but we still wake up happy EVERY day.

We’ve followed each other for quite a while now, and I always enjoy your posts. If you ever make it to the shores of northern California, we’d love to take you and Tony to the beach, redwoods, and out to dinner.

By the way, our last family reunion was on the shores of Lake Superior at a place called Twin Harbors. You’re probably going to be on the Canadian side, and this was in Minnesota. Gooseberry Falls were nearby and quite beautiful.

Second Chance Summer sounds intriguing! I would love to take you up on your offer, great outings and meeting you will be the icing on the cake (cuz we won’t have a real cake). Maybe one day…we will be going through the AMerican side , but will cross over at Sault Ste Marie, so we won’t make it up to Minnesota. One of my future planned trips is a trip around Lake Superior, but not this time.

All the very best to you folks as you wander and wonder, perhaps you’ll favour Rural Rootz with a visit on your way to Superior shores, or maybe on your way back home. Happy Trails, Tom and Dee.

First off, glad to hear the brother is not only recovering but playing the role of a model husband. Win-Win. Happy to hear dual retirement is going well a year in. I just hit 90 days in on what I am calling my “first” retirement as I wanna see how it sits with me. That upcoming Lake Superior trip should be spectacular. Enjoy the lakeside living!

Thank you! Retirement is just doing other things for a whole bunch of other reasons, it doesn’t mean sitting on the porch all day and watching the neighbours (although it could be part of your day if this is what you like to do) I hope you love it as much as we do! Hopefully I’ll be able to share Lake Superior in more-or-less real time, but I think that we will have poor connection at the park.

Wow August is a great month for you. So many wonderful anniversaries. Congrats on them all. I am kind of jealous of your van. It was once a dream of mine and right now we are trying to plan a trip to visit kids (grownup kids) and none of them have room for us to stay. Wish I could just bring my own room/van.

I’m happy to hear your brother is doing better.

And Happy Multiple Anniversaries! It sounds like you and your husband have created a wonderful retirement down by the lake, and in your van.

    Happy travels!

Happy all anniversaries to you! August is indeed a special month for you – from your van, to retirement, to move, to blogging and to your brother’s birthday. Lots to celebrate indeed!

And your upcoming Lake Superior trip sounds wonderful. Such a beautiful part of Ontario. Enjoy it and look forward to reading the recap!

Very happy anniversaries! Congratulations! Retirement is awesome beyond words. Glad to hear about your brother, and looking forward to Lake Superior posts. The shore of Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is one of my favorite places.

Thank you! Not sure what’s happening with the replies in your post, but it appears that all of the comment are showing up as replies to my comment for some reason. If you scroll down, you will see your comments as well. Weird, but somehow expected ????

We would love to hear from you!
