Bringing Our New Baby Home

IMG_1683We did it!  After months of deliberating, researching, contemplating (and a bit of arguing), we narrowed down our choice of a campervan to the Carado Banff.  A couple of delays in delivery, but here we are, driving our brand new campervan home.  Actually Tony is driving and I am following behind in my car.  He seems to be doing okay and the van is rather sexy from behind, people are rubber-necking as they drive by it.

We stopped about an hour away from the dealership to christen the stove and made a cup of Turkish coffee.  First snag was that we didn’t think of bringing a stove lighter, but the nice guys at Forest City Motorhome (unfortunately they went out of business since) gave us one as soon as  they were done laughing at me for really wanting to make a cup of coffee right away.  I think it is a perfectly normal desire for a new campervan owner, right?

We brought it home and just sat in it for a while. This is actually an exciting moment in our life that opens a window to a different kind of travel.  The endless travel opportunities ahead! We did our share of backpacking in Europe and the Far East, we did car road trips, and camping trips – all were amazing, but this will give us some extra freedom and added versatility.  Now what to do about work?  How can we maximize roadtripping while we are still working?  We’ll have to find some solutions and compromises that will allow us to do both.

It’s Thursday afternoon, but we are not going to wait too long to take it on the road even if it is for a short stint.  We are leaving tomorrow morning for adventure number 1.  Can’t wait!

Congrats to a new way of life Margy and Tony, we’re so happy for you, and to see a very sexy van! Mods are always fun…just need to live it it for a while—then make your list, like a potable canoe, high efficient kitchen gadgets. buy the way, did you know you can use cast iron pots/pans on open campfires and also on induction stoves?
enjoy this special moment that you guys have earned and deserve. ps, welcome to the new world of empty nesters.
