Cape Cod Wedding Venue

Cape Cod – Pirates, Marinas, and Nuptials

Day 1 routeAfter another pleasant night at Myles Standish State Forest we had to go back over the bridge to chaos Cape Cod so that we can attend the wedding that was our first destination.

Again, traffic jam and pendamanium. to cross the bridge  No lanes, no courtesy to other drivers, everyone is trying to just get there.  Eventually we did…

Trafic jam on bridge to Cape cod

and once over the bridge we drove straight to Wood’s Hole at the extreme southwest corner of Cape Cod.  We like extreme corners, but we are also suckers for weird town names.

Woods Hole is a neat village. It is the site of several famous marine science institutions and an aquarium, but also just a nice place to walk around.

So we had a nice walk and a fantastic fishy lunch by the water  where we could watch the drawbridge rise to let the boats through.

We made to Hyannis Port, AKA wedding basecamp.  This is where we ditched the van for a couple of nights at a hotel.

We had too much fun with the app that let us unlock the door to our room.  I don’t think that we are quite grown up yet.  Other than that and the hot shower, we are pretty happy with the van

We had a lovely “get to know everyone that will be attending the wedding” evening and the next day, a whole day to explore Port Hyannis and the vicinity.  The tornado’s thumbmark could be seen everywhere; uprooted trees, blown roofs and debris everywhere, but the Cape People (are they called Capers?) were very diligent in cleaning up after the tornadoes and things were slowly getting back to normal.  The wedding venue was intact, so everything proceeded as planned.

We drove the short distance to visit the Whydah Pirate Museum, which we expected to be a tourist trap. It ended up being an interesting and informative museum about pirate history in general, and the recovery and conservation of a pirate treasure.

Back to Hyannis port, we walked around the port and enjoyed the colours and public spaces.  We declined chasing the Kennedy’s legacy around town in favour of art and a public artisan fair.  Maybe next time.

Finally it was wedding night.  We should mention that it was the wedding of the son of a a long time friend (3rd grade to be precise).  We were thrilled to share this special day with our friends.

The venue was in a beach club.  The backdrop was the ocean, sunset ,and the ocean breeze.  Perfect.

The wedding was lovely and the food was great.  In true Cape Cod fashion, the appetizers were a medley of fish and chips, Chowder, lobster rolls, and crab cakes.  Yum.  We also chose fish as our main course, so either seafood overload, or heaven, depending on your perspective.

And here is a rare photo of Tony in a suit. It’s blurry and dark so you’ll have to take my word that it’s really him.  We both cleaned up okay.

We loved the beach glass place-setting.  We should find a way to incorporate them into the van.  Any ideas?

Tomorrow we start heading back home, but there are still a few more places to see and more friends to visit along the way.

Great story, our in-laws lived on the cape near the bourne bridge and we know that crazy traffic. Uere’s a suggestion for the glass frame them and place them on the back wall over twin bed on your prefered side of the van.

We would love to hear from you!
