The Coronavirus Diaries – What to do now that the bunny is gone?

We have very limited sources of entertainment here in self-isolation land.  Yeah, we watch TV and go for walks, but we are a bit limited.  One endless source of entertainment is the wildlife around us; the birds are back in full force (except for the hummingbirds), and we have a resident bunny (at least one) that comes to the front yard every morning and every afternoon to nibble on grass.  It’s a large bunny and we always get excited when it shows up.

Today, when we crossed the street to go to the forest we discovered that a car ran over our bunny.  A piece of our little world shattered again.  We were devastated, but we went for our hike, found geocaches and fairy stones, admired the trilliums,

and when we came back the bunny was still there, in the middle of the road.

The death of “our” bunny emphasized that our world got a lot smaller and I realized that we need to start thinking of other times.  Times when the world will open up and we can choose our own adventure again.

We decided to start cautiously planning our next trip.  At least give us something to do and something to look forward to.

Of course there will still be limitations.  Our Alaska trip is definitely on hold and who knows if it will ever come to be.  The same goes for near future travel to western US and Canada, but we may be able to travel in our own  province, or the adjacent ones.  We have some plans for that!

For the time being we came up with three plans that are somewhat interconnected:

Arctic travel anyone?

We have some dreams to travel to the arctic(even sub-arctic will do) and were delighted to find out that we can drive about 13 hours north to James Bay.  No trains or planes needed.  Just an automobile.  The James Bay Road will take us all the way to Radisson, Quebec — a hop and a skip from James Bay.  We are still in the information-gathering stage and there isn’t a lot of current  information about this route, so if anyone has any info about it (or a similar trip to the arctic), we would love to hear from you!

They are doing their share of social distancing up north only they measure it in snowmobiles!

Still Standing

CBC Gem - Still Standing - Season 5

Image copyrights CBC Canada

We’ve been binge watching the CBC show Still Standing, a Canadian show featuring small Canadian towns that came upon hard times.  Comedian Jonny Harris takes us on a fantastic tour of Canada through the eyes of these towns and their residents.  We thought it would be cool to visit them one by one and see for ourselves what they’re all about. Bit by bit, province by province and share our take on the town.

We are working on a plan, but also:

Still Standing Next Door

But what about the town next door that didn’t get picked up for the show?  Don’t they have something to share with the world?  Maybe we’ll hop over since we are in the area and take a peek as well.  Maybe Jonny will read our blog and pick one of them for his next season 🙂

So we can start by planning our arctic trip and hit some of the Still Standing towns and their Next Doors on the way.

How does this sound?

Other than the unfortunate bunny, this was a good Mother’s Day and we are looking forward to having some travel dreams materialize.

Happy Mother’s Day!

We’d give you one of the bunnies from here, but they are too busy dogging and hiding from the eagles, hawks and falcons.
We’re in for the Arctic, and these days feel like busting loose! Canada is on our pallet this year…if there is a year left? New roads are always exciting, haven’t been on that one.
Yes we also love Johnny, more so in Murdock Mysteries.
    Stay safe, stay sane.

Poor bunny. The road is a dangerous place for animals. Your trip sounds exciting. Here’s hoping things open up soon

Loved the Artic Unit of Measure! Wishing you safe travels. Like everyone else, we cancelled our spring trip and are hoping for a better outcome this fall. I have a feeling the roads are going to be unusually busy this year.

We would love to hear from you!
