Temagami Fire Tower

We spent the night at Finlayson Point Provincial Park just south of Temagami.  Since we arrived early, we managed a few dips in the lake; a relief from the extreme heat.

Some fire time in a surprisingly bug-free environment,

and the obligatory gorgeous sunset.

The Temagami area has many geological features, including one of the largest magnetic and gravity anomalies in the world, a couple of craters, an ancient volcano , faults, and mineral deposits, some unique to the area

Within the park there are some interpretive boards with information about some of the geological structures in the area.

In town, some things were closed, including the beautiful Chamber of Commerce.

Since we are still concerned with social distancing, we opted for the outdoors again and drove to Caribou Mountain Fire Tower and trails.

The area has several old growth forest, one of them White Bear Forest which is accessible by foot.  In contrast, Obabika Old Growth Forest, accessible by canoe only, is considered the largest remaining white pine dominated old-growth forest in the world

In our opinion, the 100 foot climb up to the tower is really worth it!

Especially since the views from the top platform are breathtaking.

but don’t look down when descending down the spiral stairs!

In addition,  there are several viewing platform around the tower that also have great views

Oh, but who is the guy in the funny hat?

On the drive down from Caribou Mountain, we stopped at the Beaver Pond Trail

Sure enough, there is a beaver lodge on this pond,

as well as this camouflaged guy,

and many water lilies.

On our way back, we stopped at the trapper cabin,

and peeked outside from the interior of the cabin.

Just north of Temagami, in Letchford, we came across this memorial.  We wonder what the story behind it may be.

Next, we will stop in Cobalt; the last Still Standing town we visited during this trip.

What a beautiful place. It must have been hard to leave. And that tower! WOW. The views are incredible. What ever happened to that guy in the funny hat? 😉

What a gorgeous spot! Were there as few people there as your pictures suggest? I would climb the fire tower for the views alone. I’ve got a friend who volunteers and serves at a lookout on one of those. I always wondered what they were like.

This looked like the most beautiful place to camp. Have never heard of a camping area with no bugs. Loved your photos. The view from the tower was gorgeous. I bet that guy in the hat is wondering who you are too. Ha Happy Camping.

I liked the handmade interpretive board, some people are passionate about their region and try to make it better known. Many thanks to them.

We would love to hear from you!
