As we wait in cold Ontario during a second lockdown, we can’t help but reminisce. We enjoy our travels through Ontario, but we miss the desert. We miss long-haul campervan travel, and we miss Emma. This photo was taken 2 years ago in Quartzsite, Arizona where we had all three and no idea what the future is about to hand us.
Both Gum Trees and Galaxies and Carol at Retired? No one told me! nominated us for the 10 day travel challenge. Since we already participated, we would just ask that you hop over to their blogs and check them out! Today, we wanted to feature two blogs. Operas and cycling, and other travels, and The Wicked Traveled Historian, offer interesting perspectives about a variety of travel related subjects. Check them out!
Terrific shot. You couldn’t have imagined what was ahead – maybe that was for the best! Here’s to a year ahead with many exciting positives adventures!
Thanks! I guess if anything, it’s a good reminder to live each day to its fullest. Whatever your “full” may be. Yes, more positive adventures, please 🙂
It really is remarkable how much you can pack into your van. I still remember when your friend Mihaly filmed your use of the inside space. Here’s to many happy adventures moving forward. I assume Emma is your granddaughter? What a sad byproduct of COVID not to be able to spend time with your loved ones.
We actually arrived at the conclusion that we have more storage space than we need! Emma is our dog who passed away not too long after that trip, so it’s a forever kind of miss her 🙁 We don’t have any grandchildren, but we do miss our daughter very much!
I’m so sorry to hear about Emma. We lost our dog, Jake, at the beginning of the pandemic. I still can’t bring his name up without my wife tearing up. I know this subject has come up with people losing loved ones during the last year and not being able to grieve in normal ways. I feel that, too, since we’ve lived more in a bubble than ever before.
Thanks, Pete! This year was so strange, and on so many levels and aspects of our lives. It’s got to be life changing for most of us.
Dear Emma always had her bag packed and was ready to wherever you were inclined to head. Sweet girl.
They always say there’s light at the end of the tunnel when talking about the virus. I say let’s flip on a lot more switches! LOL. Keep smiling😁
Yes, she was! It’s totally time to turn on the floodlights 🙂
Travellers and non travellers alike. I think we are all getting a bit antsy. I definitely recommend jigsaw puzzles. There are a lot of scenic ones out there. Plus a lot of other wonderful ones as well. eurographics.ca has a great selection. My go-to for sanity.
We did lots of puzzles at the beginning and really enjoyed them. I’ll check eurographic out!
Thanks so much for the shoutout in your post. I really appreciate that! Really enjoy reading your blog! Thanks again. – Zach
My pleasure, Zach! I am enjoying your blog as well!
love that van!
We do too 🙂
I think this pandemic has made us all step back and reaiise what we do have to be grateful for and that we need to treasure more and live our days one at a time …Thank you for the shoutout be well and stay safe 🙂
Very true! It is my pleasure 🙂 Take care!
I’m right there with you. While it’s been a blast travelling around Ontario this year, it would be nice to shake it up a bit. We went to Arizona about 5 years ago and the desert landscape was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. On a somewhat related note, I wonder what Ford will announce next week in terms of adding “more extreme measures”.
I would just love to go back for the whole winter. As to Ford, I think that there will be some mobility restrictions, potentially even a curfew…hang in there!
Sometimes Sandi and I feel a little guilty about voicing how much we would like to travel here and there, go south for the winter and travel in our fancy camper van. While we have temporary restrictions curtailing our largely recreational pursuits, many have not the means, nor are they likely to, to even dream about the lifestyle many of us lead. If any of us can turn our attention to helping create a better society for all and a more accepting place for all, now is the time. We have taken our travel budget and donated it to community services and the local foodbank.
George, this is admirable and applaud you two! One of the reasons that we are waiting for restrictions to be lifted is so that we can volunteer with Habitat for Humanity as we planned to do. If each one does something small for someone else…
