Every Wednesday and Saturday, year round, Sarnia’s Farmers’ Market opens its doors. It’s a busy place in in the summer, but even in November, when we visited, there was some hustle and bustle.
Sarnia is surrounded by water and farmland. Just the other day we drove by mounds of what looked like potatoes,
but at closer inspection (and some intense googling) turned out to be sugar beets.
We shared the market with a cute group of kindergarten kids who come by for a field trip once a week.
There were still vendors outside and they expect to be there for a few more weeks into December!
THe large space inside had most of the stalls occupied with all the good stuff that you expect to but at the market.
Eggs,
maple syrup and honey,
and meat.
In the summer you can find crafters, breweries products, and a lot more variety, but we enjoyed the low key fall day, and the very low prices.
Sarnia’s farmers market has a long history and you can read about it and how it rose from the rubble after being flattened by a tornado here.
On another note, we will be on the road again soon, so stay tuned!
that looks like a wonderful market; impressive that there are some vendors still outside!
I know, the farmers are happy about it, but they are also looking for a bit of a winter break from their hard work 🙂
farmers certainly do work hard – it’s a tough life…
There’s nothing better than the Farmers Market. This looks like a great one. I especially love the conversations and stories with the sellers.
I know! I can’t wait to get to know some of them!
We have a farmers market here in Beverly Hills CA – lots of fresh fruit and veggies, plus a great Mushroom stand with multiple varieties – and everyone sells massive Avocados!
Oh, I forgot to mention the mushroom guy! There was one here too 🙂 I miss the big avocados, they are hard to find in Ontario. Lucky you 🙂
It’s hard to imagine a farmer’s market being open in December. How nice not be surrounded by people. Happy travels!
Thanks, Pete! We are excited to go!
What a wonderful market. Imagine being a little kid on a field trip there. Hope they get some kind of yummy, healthy treat on their visits. Looks like there is a nice selection there.
One of the kids pointed at the organic stall produce and said “this is Kale”. Adorable.
Wow, nice farmers market!
It will be even nicer in the summer 🙂
What a lovely market! The variety of goods looks amazing!
The veggies we bought were fantastic!
I haven’t seen Yukon potatoes in my supermarket in years, so I would have to go to Sarnia.
I wasn’t paying attention, but now that you mention it, I think you are right! Let me know when you’re coming 🙂
How lucky that your farmer’s market is open twice a week AND year round. We have a farmer’s market here in Georgetown that is only open Saturday mornings from mid-summer to mid-fall. I am missing having access to fresh produce that’s in season. That’s exciting that you’ll be back on the road!! Looking forward to reading about your adventures.
I know, we love it! It gets better in the summer as there are several other farmer markets in the vicinity including 2 night markets so you can go almost every day if this was you thing 🙂
I’m surprised to see your farmer’s market is open all year, and so far north! I especially like the cheese and baked goods selections.
It will probably all move inside once it gets too cold, but I was surprised too! They do have some good stuff from local farms which I really like.
That market offers so much..I always love visiting local markets here do much fresh products.
Me too! Fresh vegetables are just so much better than the once shipped from far away places.
what beauty! Farmer’s markets are the best. Fresh veggies are a pleasure to the eye 😀
They are! Thanks for coming along!
Lucky you! The market looks great and makes me jealous. Enjoy it all you can. Cheers, Muriel
Thanks, Muriel! Farmers markets make me happy, especially when I see young farmers that are passionate about what they grow.
I love farmers’ markets; this one looks great with lots of delicious local fresh produce 🙂
I do too! I love everything about it!
