Ponce de Leon Park

Ponce de leon park is located on the outskirts of Punta Gorda in Florida.  Our van was still at the dealership waiting to for a fix, so we had lots of time to investigate the area.  On the edge of town, overlooking Charlotte Harbour, this park seems to be the sunset Mecca of Punta Gorda.  People and their beach chairs started showing up in droves just before sunset and took front seat row to the show.

Ponce De Leon Park

There is the sandy beach and a short trail through the mangrove,

Ponce De Leon Park

but we were slightly intrigued by the variety of awkward signs in this park.  The sign below is not awkward, but it looks like there were several corrections along the years.

Ponce De Leon Park

There were several Ponce de Leon “puppets” near the parking lot.  This one was the “better-looking” one.

Ponce De Leon Park

This sign spells his name differently, but also check out the weird language around the code of ordinance.  Can’t they use normal words?

Ponce De Leon Park

This sign removed the rest of the name completely.  Not necessary for a beach.

Ponce De Leon Park

I guess this one is fine.

Ponce De Leon Park

But this sign is beyond awkward.  It’s just wrong.

Ponce De Leon Park

I wonder how many people were named Columbus at the time?  Aside from that what a cool legacy this “protector of the plumed birds is?”

Ponce De Leon Park

The rest of the signs were just regular informative signs and you can read about the different creatures around this park.

But we only encountered this bunny,

and a cardinal

Despite all of these confusing, at times, infuriating signs, we enjoyed Ponce De Leon Park and its rocky shoreline,

With these cool coquina rocks.

They looked nice when the sun started to set,

Ponce De Leon Park

and the sunset wasn’t too bad either.

We will leave you with one more sign.  This may explain the other signs since it looks like no one pays attention to them.

Ponce De Leon Park

Yeah, the sign clearly says “no fishing.”

Oh, Florida…

It’s calming to think about the very charming sight of people gathering with their chairs by the water to view the sunset. It’s a very nice thought!

Those sign mishaps are hilarious. 😆

It’s nice to see all the different animals you can possibly sight in that area. So thankful for these warmer days again so that we can do the same over here!

It seems most states, towns in places in the U.S. have some sort of claim to fame. Not sure being the place where the first white man died would be my choice. The beach looks like a good place to watch the sunset. Happy Thursday. Allan

Re the last sign; I suppose all those who were fishing could have been fishing according to ord 1345-03. or maybe 05

That first bunch of ‘informational signs’ certainly need newer updated signs to explain their outdated concepts and strange wording. I enjoyed the animal signs, seeing the bunny surprised me. The sunsets were gorgeous and lovely!

Rules and laws? We don’t need no stinkin’ rules and laws. I find it hypocritical at best when some claim to be such law abiding citizens when it comes to the parts of the Constitution and Bill of Rights that they agree with and conveniently dismiss the parts that they don’t agree with.

I remembered from history that Ponce de Leon was one of the Spanish conquistadores supposedly looking for the Fountain of Youth. I came across this bit of information about Ponce de Leon. He doesn’t sound like a great guy, which is why it’s interesting how these places spring up. https://www.mor-tv.com/article/fun-facts-about-ponce-de-leon/8359752

No doubt it still was an interesting place to visit, Margie.

Oh, the signs! It’s amazing that the city council or parks department or someone wouldn’t want to improve or remove some of these. I would’ve felt like I was watching that TV show, “Drunk History”. On the other hand, the sunset must make up for it. Your sunset photo is beautiful!

What do the new ones in Germany go for these days? The prices here went up so much that they are actually out of reach for many people. Not to mention the supply issues. I know someone in North Carolina who is selling a low mileage one that had all of the necessary mods done already. I think he is asking 65k us. Most people are asking over 90k US.

Seeing a lot of RVs in self storage (gas prices/travel costs?). I feel the trend to RVing will slow down interest, reducing RV prices.

Europe’s RVs of good quality are high priced, like the Wingamm 610 that we’re dating, is about 85,000 EUR, imported into the US at $180,000 USD (price gouging for sure). something close in style and quality we’re looking at, begin around 32,000 EUR ($45,000 CDN imported).

The more European RVs imported will force North America makers to compete. Something overly capitalists will refuse to do. The RV future looks interesting.

By the way, we just received our Starlink RV kit!! http://www.starlink.com …in a word “WOW”

What a beautiful sunset. I can see why people come with their chairs to watch the show. Someone clearly went a bit crazy with the signage here. The coquina rocks are really neat.

I see the previous bloggers covered everything in their comments. I will say I loved the first photo and the sunset was well worth gathering to see.

This looks like a lovely place to wander, except for the strange and sometimes embarrassing signs. I live near a lake and there’s a sign that says not to fish off the bridge, but of course, there are always a few people fishing there!

We would love to hear from you!
