We arrived in Denver and got to work right away.
Packing, booking shipping pods, strategising logical sequence of operations, were the priorities.
We were greeted by a constant buzz. Cicadas.
These are not your common cicadas that emerge every 17 years to serenade us. These are the really common cicadas that emerge every year and no one talks about them because they don’t emerge once every 17 years. Go figure.
Here is a close up look of the alien looking Dog-day Cicada. Isn’t it cool?
Over the past two weeks, we got the most of the stuff in the house packed and loaded onto two shipping pods, tetris-style. We replaced a toilet, a vanity, and flooring in the basement bathroom.
Now that we have no furniture to speak of, we brought in the campervan mattresses and are having some fun time with Penny who loves burrowing in the new beddings.
We even hosted a small dinner party and drank French sparkling wine from water glasses which tasted just fine.
Items are added to our schedule as the days are crossed out. We are on track!
Today, we had a hawk visit the sunflower garden looking for some mice
Here is a closer look, unfortunately a little blurry. We couldn’t tell if it was a Cooper Hawk or a different kind, but it was big!
Evenings usually look like this. We will miss the sunflowers and the wildlife they attract.
Next time we’ll try to tell you about the Red Baron’s uncle.
Did you move from Sarnia to Denver?
No, we are in Denver helping our daughter move to Michigan!
Cicadas are creepy little buggers, especially when you get one in the house. Good on you for being so organized and getting ‘er done. Have a great day. Allan
They are creepy, but also beautiful in an eerie way. We are doing the final stretch now!
🙂
You have been busy!
Yup!
The life of a COMMON cicada—when no one talks about you. They are an odd looking and unique. One of my brothers lives in Aurora, right next to Denver. I like the old-school handmade calendar.
I have some plans to explore some of Aurora’s public art installations. Hopefully we’ll have the time.
You are very organized but that’s no surprise ???? It will be so much easier at the other end. The hawk is a beautiful bird. You just don’t want it visiting when your daily birds are around. Penny is adorable. Good luck with the final days.
Thanks, Linda. Can you tell if it’s a Cooper?
Sounds like you have a lot of “fun” going on at your house! I do love listening to the cicadas sing. It’s the epitome of summer for me and brings back some great childhood memories.
Lots of “fun” indeed! I am also one of these people who don’t mind the cicadas singing.
Good luck with the move. I too thought you were moving but see in the comments your clarification. Cicadas add gross and it’s creepy to think there’s a variety that arrives annually!
Haha, I don’t find them so gross and I really don’t mind them 🙂
Okay. What did I miss. Is this a permanent move. Are you migrating to the US of A? Have you given up on Canada? Big moves need the expertise of an Ad Agency.
All right. My bad. I should read ALL the comments before I jump in.
Haha, my bad, I should have been a bit more specific!
Ah, cicadas are a nuisance! It’s one thing to experience a certain one every 17 years, but another to experience another EVERY year– honestly, I’d take the former! Looks like ultimate summer tranquility, as we head into the next month and, soon enough, the fall season and cooler temperatures!
This was a HOT summer! I can’t wait for a bit of a break, but then it will be winter and we will crave the heat 🙂
Looks like you have it all worked out. Great fun. Except, keep the creepy looking cicada. ????
We will try not to bring any hitchhikers back to Ontario with us 🙂
I appreciate that.
I ache just thinking about all the work of moving!
Yeah, not a favourite activity 🙂
I remember the first time I saw a cicada, it was much bigger than I was expecting. I love the sound of them though and they always remind me of the end of summer. Best of luck with the rest of the move. It sounds like you are very organized! As someone who also loves to plan, I appreciated your detailed schedule / calendar!
We also have a detailed to-do list and an extensive spreadsheet. That’s what happens when you have three project managers assigned to the same job 🙂
