The Unwieldy Black Water Hose

This is a horror story that never happened.

We were warned about emptying the black water tank and we approached the subject with a mild state of panic.  Actually, there was no reason to dread this at all; it’s a pretty smooth operation, and if done by 2 people, it’s even easier.  Tony was at the controls and I managed the dirty end of business.  I usually do anyway, so that’s okay.

So nothing to it, right? Not really.  Getting the hose back into the compartment was a full-on war.  David and Goliath, or Tony verses The Hose, whatever you call it, it was almost impossible getting this sucker into its designated compartment.  By the time it was finally pushed in, hopefully with no puncture wounds (can you imagine?), Tony was sweaty and cranky; we need to find a solution for this quickly, or we’ll back to the outhouses in the parks.

Luckily our daughter reads about campervans and actually remembers stuff, so when I mentioned to her our predicament she said “there are hoses that compress better, just replace the hose”. Why didn’t we think of that?

This is the original hose in its compartment

The two hoses side by side – can you tell the difference?

Hoses

And triumph.  It fits much better!  You may not be able to see the difference, but you’ll have to take my word for it.  It took 2 seconds to put it back in and there is an added elbow as a bonus that fits in there as well!

New Hose

We now have a spare hose just in case.
