You may have noticed that we were very quiet lately. After announcing our retirement, we spent every minute of our time on two things: selling our house and buying a new one.
We had to spruce up our house a little, which we did fairly quickly. Serendipitously, before we listed the house, our neighbours expressed interest in buying it.
They just did.
At the same time, looking for a house along the shores of Lake huron proved to be even more time consuming since every time we went to look at a house it was a 6 hour return trip.
We did some over-nights, and we visited a few parks for some R&R which we will write about at a later date, but for now we just wanted to let you all know that WE BOUGHT A NEW HOUSE!!!
We will be about 450 metres from the beach, and close to several other beaches and walking trails.
Here are a few photos of some of the beaches,
blue water,
serene sunset spots,
and we’ll try not to have too much of this delicious artery clogger.
In other news, we will be releasing the hostages soon. Turns out we all got very attached to each other and they are currently looking for a house nearby. We have to continue the tradition of marathon TV shows nights and delicious dinners.
We finished watching “The Librarians”, which was fun, and now we are well into “Community” which is wacky and hilarious.
That’s all the news we’ve got.
We are very excited for new beginnings!
That is SO amazing! You guys deserve the best, and it sounds like you found paradise. Congratulations! Love from Me and Fatch.
Thank you! I have a feeling we’ll be seeing you at one point 🙂
Wonderful and congratulations. Looks like a fabulous spot. Glad things all fell into place for you. Hope the hostages find a good home close by.
Thanks! We are stoked!
Unbelievable! Congrats my friends! You two never do anything half throttle 😂 I’m dying for more details and so happy for you 💕
Here’s to your new beginnings.
Cheers!
Sounds wonderful! We enjoyed your trips around Lake Huron earlier this year. We are now exploring converting a toyota sienna hybrid with a 1500 watt inverter. into a micro-camper that can also be a daily driver. Looks tight but do-able. It gets better mileage than either of our subarus. (14.88 Km/L) Google toyota sienna campervan.
This sounds like a cool conversion! We are looking at maybe doing something similar down the road. Maybe you will finally make it north across the border!
Congratulations and all the best! Have a wonderful time!!
Thank you!
And photos of the house?
Those will be coming! RIght now all the photos that we have are of the ceiling beams in the basement, water heater and some weird angles of room 🙂
We will also need to adjust mentally to moving from a farm to a city street! Maybe we’ll do a side by side photos of the two houses…
My sister-in-law had a house near Lake Huron. I can’t remember the exact place, but on the SW shore, I believe.
On the American side? Maybe Port Huron?
Felecitations, though, was not easy at the moment. Another step forward.
Thank you, and yes, another step forward!
Wonderful news! Wish you all the best in your new beginning.
Thank you so much!
Congrats on selling. Happy house hunting. Allan
Thanks, Allan! We did buy a house!
Awesome! Cant wait to see it
Thanks! The border will be opening soon 🙂
You’ll be posting pics i hope
We most certainly will!
I’ve been over by Sarnia and Grand Bend. The water is nice around Grand Bend. I also have taken a drive on the north side and a ferry to Bruce Peninsula? Not sure where you are buying. A lot of nice areas.
We were up and down the shore all the way from border to border and settled on Sarnia. Climate, beach, the chill vibe, and the poutine 🙂
I have some relatives there. Where are you from originally? Sarnia has a nice park on the lake. I guess it is the best of both worlds. It’s a small city with a lot to offer in a great location.
Oh, cool! I hope your relatives like it there! Canatara Park is just beautiful and I can’t wait to explore it. We will be within a short walking distance to it and the beach. We have lived on a small farm north of Stouffville for a couple of decades, so it will be an adjustment.
We actually had a family reunion or two there years ago. I think a couple of years ago Sarnia had some interesting ice formations on trees and other objects on the water front area. It is such a nice coast starting there and going east along the lake. Almost suprising it was not developed more considering.
Yeah, there are really cool ice formations along the coast. It is a bit of a hidden gem!
Oh! You were north of Toronto and South of Lake Simcoe. I spent a week at Lake Simcoe years ago. Is the area you are from considered cottage country?
No, Cottage county is further North. North of Simcoe actually. We are on a small farm, but surrounded by towns. This area is referred to as the greater Toronto Area, or the GTA.
Oh congratulations! Beautiful photos! Living a beach life is my retirement dream. Thank you for sharing 💙
Thank you! We can’t wait!
Happy new home!
It looks like a stupendous location ENJOY! xx
Thank you so much! We are very happy!
CONGRATULATIONS!! Looks like you’re moving into an awesome area. The beaches look gorgeous and it’s always nice to be by some walking trails. Best of luck with the move.
Thanks so much! We are very excited for the move. Maybe you can come and visit “our” park one day 🙂
Yes please!! 🙂
🙂
Congratulations, Margie! I had noticed your absence. As a teacher that saw all kinds of excuses, I think this one qualifies as acceptable. Much luck to you and Tony in your new home.
I’ve been off the grid. I was supposed to be in Tahoe with a buddy, but the wildfires prevented us from getting there. We went to Reno instead, but this morning it is all smoky. Heading home tomorrow. Power was knocked out in a couple of cities we passed through. It’s like going through landmines these days with all of the fires.
Thanks, Pete! These forest fires are unbelievably scary. We have them raging here as well throughout Northern Ontario and British Columbia. This is part of the reason why we chose not to move out west which was our original plan. Stay safe!
Buying a house after owning an RV can be a bit of a let-down. The freedom of the road is an exhilarating thing, and the stationary block of life that is a house often can’t compare. That said, you do have greater room in a home…

Absolutely! We are actually moving to the same size house as the one we have, just less acreage!
What a fantastic place to settle your transplanted roots.
We have pretty shallow roots. East to transplant 🙂
Congratulations on the new home! And what a pretty location, too! Hope you’re settling in nicely, and I look forward to more adventures from you in this new spot. 🙂
Thank, Rebecca! We are very excited for our new adventures!
How exciting. Congratulations! We just returned from a lovely trip to Huron. I did read all your blog posts on the area, so thank you very much for all the info. As you already know Huron is beautiful. Wishing you the very best on your new adventures.
Thank you! I am looking forward to reading your adventures in the area!
Congratulations, what a lovely place to be! You have chosen wisely.
Thank you! We are very pleased and excited!
Congratulations! Beautiful photos too.
Thank you!
Congratulations! I wish you the best with your new house, and how nice that (hopefully) the hostages will be close by!
Thanks! Yes, the hostages are going to be very close by, which allow us to continue some traditions acquired during the pandemic. Mainly watching quirky TV shows together 🙂
sounds like a wonderful tradition!
That is very exciting news! Can’t wait to see photos of the new place one of these weeks. The water looks stunning!! Enjoy the change of scenery and organizing the new place. Fun!
Thank you! we are so excited…two more weeks…
Congratulations! This is a big step, but it looks like you found your place. Hope the move is going smoothly by now, all the best!!
Thank you so much! Tuesday will be the big day. can’t wait 🙂
Wow, only few more days🙂
