Glen Rock Conservation Area

Glen Rock Conservation Area is located near Arkona, Ontario and is owned by the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority.

Glen Rock

It is situated in a transitional zone between the Carolinian forest zone to the south , and the Great Lakes zone to the north.  It is home to a large diversity of species that represent both zones.

Glen Rock Conservation Area

This relatively small conservation area features a waterfall, a gorge, hiking trails, fossil collecting area, and a museum.

We only had time for a short visit, so we headed straight to the waterfall.

Down the stairs.

Past the ruins of the old mill.

and there it was in the distance.

Glen Rock Falls

There is something about waterfalls…the combination of power and beauty,  the soothing sound of cascading water, the cool mist on a hot day.  We just keep coming back.

And each waterfall is different and awe inspiring even though we’ve seen hundreds of waterfalls before.

Glen Rock Falls

We explored the area a bit by traipsing and tottering on the rocks around the waterfall.

We were lucky to sharethis place with only a few other people, but we understand that the place can get pretty busy.

One last look and we’re off.

We would love to come back here to hike the trails and visit the museum.  Maybe even leave with a couple of cool fossils.

What a beautiful place and you took some great pictures. Glad to know it wasn’t too crowded and you were able to enjoy the experience fully. I often seek out places like that.

Marvelous! I liked your description of the waterfall—the combination of power and beauty is right on. I expect when no one is around that it attracts a fair amount of wildlife.

I’m dearly missing lush waterfalls, especially here in southern California where we’re in a perpetual drought. The ones you checked out in the Glen Rock Conservation Area may look small, but beautiful all the same!

What a lovely little conservation area with such a pretty waterfall. I just looked up where this is and it’s not too far from Pinery. I’ll have to add this to my list for the next time I’m in the area.

It’s worth a visit, especially on a hot day. There’s a $4 per person entry fee, so you might want to spend a bot more time than we did 🙂 we just took the stairs down to the waterfall, but there are a couple of trails that look interesting.

We would love to hear from you!
