Our moving day is fast approaching. We decided to take a break from packing and go on a short trip to Prince Edward County Long Point Road Beach. What we really needed was a distraction since we can’t wait for to move to our new house, new town, and new life!
Little did we know that about an hour in, a nice distraction was coming our way in the form of a rock that dislodged from a truck. Damn. Not only do we have to replace the windshield, we will also need to reseal the entire area that is prone to leaks.
But we soldiered on. We needed a beach, some sunshine, and water; nothing was going to stop us. We did have to cut our trip short though, since we found a company that will replace the windshield in our driveway in a couple of days.
We crested the bridge that leads to Prince Edward County and immediately were transformed into a different world. You know that island feel? The different pace, the smell of water and frying fish?
our first stop was to check in at our Harvest Host location for the night, a small organic farm tucked away on a side road. Ben’s Blooms in a delightful and welcoming place, and we’ll write about it more on our next post.
But first the beach. On our first van trip three years ago, we discovered a wonderful beach on Long Point Road. Now that we’ll be moving three hours farther away, we thought it will be nice to visit it again before it becomes a far destination.
This beautiful and unusual beach consists of flat large pebbles, and unlike other rocky beaches it is quite comfortable to walk on.
It’s also comfortable for sunbathing, which we did.
The north end of the beach consists of large flat rocks.
The beach is nestled by the Bird Observatory (currently closed) and within the boundaries of a national wildlife area. There is free parking along the side of the road, but there weren’t many people, which is so surprising. Maybe because it’s a bit out of the way?
Boaters moore near the shore

and zodiacs for a spin
We made lunch and brought is to the beach.
Went for a swim in the cold but still inviting and deliciously refreshing water.
and back to lying on the beach.
Later, we explored the rocky parts of the beach.
admired the geometric shapes of these giant submerged slabs.
The water swirls in the crevices and under the rocks
and you can hear the water lapping in the crevices.
We spent a couple of hours on the beach and then continued to Point Petre Wildlife Conservation Area for a short hike before returning to Ben’s Blooms Harvest Host farm.
But more about that next time.
Very nice distraction from packing. Except for the windshield event. Love those big slabs of rocks. Good luck with the packing and moving.
It was great and the rocks were really cool. And thanks, we can’t wait!
Hello!!! This looks like a wonderful beach. Can I ask where it’s located?
Sure. It’s in Prince Edward county, Ontario, Canada. There is more description within the post if you ever get to the area.
Glad you did not let the rock deter you from having fun. Looks like a great place for R & R during packing up. Happy moving to you. Allan
It was great. Thanks, Allan!
Glad to hear that you were able to take a break from packing and visit Prince Edward County. That’s such a beautiful area. That sucks about your cracked windshield though but at least it didn’t prevent you from going on your adventures. That beach looks gorgeous. We’ll have to check this out next time we’re in the area. Have a great weekend. Linda
It is a lovely area. Being there practically all by yourself was a huge bonus. I’m sure it helped bring calm to your life. It helps balance out the rest.
You are right, it balanced out all the chaos!
Looks like a great place to visit. Those giant rock slabs are really something. Were they at all slippery? The rocks in Lake Ontario out here often get slippery in the summer with the growth of algae. Sorry to hear about your windshield, however you both have a great way of making the most of it. Happy moving!
Thanks! The rocks were not slippery both times we visited, even the wet ones, but I’m not sure if this is the case year round. Either way, they were really cool!
Oh yikes! Sorry for the windshield mishap. Beautiful photos! Beaches and clear water are my medicine for everything. This looks like a perfect spot. ❤
Thanks! Windshield fixed and all is well. Yes, water is the best medicine 🙂
That beach has a lot going for it! Best of luck on your move!
Thanks so much, and yes it does!
Best of luck with moving day xx
Thank you so much!
Beautiful area! How far are you moving? Was this part of your retirement plan, or did it just kind of happen?
It is beautiful! We are moving 3 hours west of us, so the opposite direction from Prince Edward County. The area we are moving to is right on the border with Michigan on the shores of Lake Huron. Part of our retirement plan was to move, but didn’t know where we will move to. We considered a few options, but at the end we decided to stay in Ontario and find a house that is more in town and close to a lake and to parks. Although we had a bit of a hiccup with Covid and prices going up in all the areas that we looked, we did end up finding something that didn’t require too many compromises 🙂
Great! Well, don’t judge too much of your retirement on this year as it is all wonky. Everything has been smooth sailing for us. Covid has gotten in the way a bit, but we’re healthy and that’s got to be the #1 priority right now.
Absolutely! We are totally happy with our decision (for now) and really looking forward to the move! Big life style change, but that’s part of the fun! New experiences and new adventures ahead!
That’s certainly a lot of flat rocks! I don’t think I’ve come across a shoreline with such unique stones, but they certainly make for a distinctive and memorable time by the water. I’m glad you got to make a getaway to Prince Edward to enjoy the natural beauty of it all!
These stones are certainly unique! Thanks for joining us!
Sorry about your windshield. That happened to me a few weeks ago too. Glad you got a break from packing!
All fixed now and we had our time in the sun so all is well!
thanks for that peaceful video; the rock in the water at the end looks like a turtle.
You two are tough – that water must have been quite cold, and then laying on those rocks!
Glad you were able to take a break from your packing – I am sure you are quite excited about the move!
and I’m sorry to hear about your windshield…
I have to admit, the water was very cold, but it was a very hot day so it was refreshing. The pebbles are very flat and actually comfortable to walk or lay down a towel and soak up the sun.
We can’t wait for the move!
it seems like you may have also been getting a bit of a massage while laying on those pebbles!
You know that hot rock treatment at the spa? It was free 🙂
ahhh… now I get the appeal 🙂
Looks like a beautiful location. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for coming along!
You two find the greatest spots! Is this beach on PEI? I wasn’t sure if the county and the island are the same? And, I am very aware of the expensive toll to/from Prince Edward Island, so didn’t think it would be worth that for one day, but maybe I’m wrong?
I should have included a map! Prince Edward county is in Ontario and is a very charming place. No tolls to cross the bridge and definitely worth the drive. I’ll add a map to one of the next installments!
Prince Edward County is a very relaxing place within easy reach of Toronto, perfect for a weekend away. There are enough nooks and crannies to explore to keep you busy for a while. I remember this field full of birdhouses of all shapes and sizes.
It is a lovely place for a quick getaway! We thoroughly enjoyed our break!
Grrr… sorry about that windshield. Our windshield is pitted with several rock chips. We’re holding out until we get back to AZ to replace it. Looks like a fun getaway before the moving starts.
Yeah, it ended up a pretty expensive short getaway 🙂 We are back in the thick of packing again!
That is a great outing..fun place to visit. Such beautiful place to see.
It really was fun! Thanks for coming along!
I loved your description of getting to that island feel… and the opening image made me jealous. The geometric shapes under the water, in the video, are quite interesting.
Thank you! It was a nice and very much needed short trip. Thanks for visiting with us!
How was the water? Cold?
It wasn’t too bad, but if you are not used to northern lakes you may have a hard time going in!
I’ve heard they have a warm current up there. Was not sure if that was true. I know when I went to Newfoundland I never saw anyone swimming.
Warm may be a bit of an exaggeration, but some lakes are warmer than others.
Sorry for your car window!
Thanks! All good and fixed now!
Beautiful photos. I’m jealous so decided to pretend I WAS there with you. Thanks for letting me tag along. Cheers, Muriel
It was lovely having you with us 🙂 Maybe one day we can actually hang out together someplace, somewhere!
