The Chronicles of Sarnia – Chapter One

We moved.  The house is ours and we love it.

We are sitting on garden furniture, sleeping on the RV mattresses on the floor, and cooking on the RV’s induction plate, but we love it.

Boxes will be coming and going for a month.  Mostly books.

The only appliance we have is a dishwasher, and it’s leaking…

but let’s go outside!

For now, we are tourists in our own backyard.

These are giant!  Some of them were about a foot across!

There are a few Western Spiderwort (Tradescantia accidentalis) plants.  Spiderwort is a delightful plant that I have not seen in Ontario yet.  This edible plant is native to southern prairie states and is considered a threatened specie in Canada.  You can use the leaves in the same way as you would use aloe vera.  It also detects radiation and the cells of its stamen hairs turn from blue to pink.

So far, they looked blue.

The climate here allows for southern flora to thrive, and I’ve seen a few banana trees like these ones from a house around the corner.

We are explorer of our new town, of which we know very little about, and we are loving it.

The lake

Canatara Beach

never disappoints.

Constantly changing,

and never seems to be busy.

The St. Clair River

Bluewater Bridge

Bluewater Bridge

seems to be the place where everyone hangs out after dinner.

and gifts from the lake.

Spectacular sunrises

to spectacular sunsets.

But the biggest news is that we released the hostages.  They grew quite attached to us though and just moved into their own house not too far away.

Here we are celebrating the two big moves in front of the U-haul.

A piece of advice: do not attempt to move two households on the same day.

More to come!

Wow. Everything looks fabulous. The house is so nice. The yard is a perfect size. And the lake… well we all know how wonderful lakes are when you live close to one. And the best part, you have family close by. I think you guys are going to be very happy there. Looking forward to more stories and pictures. All the best.

Congratulations. Your new home looks lovely, including the fabulous garden. I have that tradescantia growing in my garden – one is blue and another is more of a purple colour. I didn’t know they are edible.

Everything looks pretty ideal in your photos. Wow! Two households on the same day? You are gluttons for punishment. ???? I hope you love everything about retirement and starting over in a brand new place.

Glad to hear that you are loving your new house. That’s amazing that the hostages have followed along and moved somewhere close by. Your backyard looks amazing with all those flowers and those views of the lake never get old.

Congrats!! You got a lovely place, not mentioning about the beach, and all that comes with it???? It doesn’t matter where you sleep, and how you eat, as long as you love it! The weather looks fine, I’m looking forward for your new adventures????

Thank you! We are getting very comfortable here! Yes, we still plan to travel as much as we can given the pandemic restrictions. It will be mostly in Canada, but hey, there’s still lots to see and do here. Yes, these banana plants are in Sarnia and look permanently planted in the garden, so not brought in for the winter. I was blown away when I saw that. I may have to go and knock on their door and ask them about it.

We would love to hear from you!
